A claim denied on a fifteen-minute drive-by inspection, reopened with chalked test squares and dated photographs.

The challenge
The storm came through in May and the claim was denied in June, on the strength of an inspection that never left the driveway. The homeowners accepted it, because that is what most people do. They called us eighteen months later about a leak above the garage, and by then the deadline for reopening the claim was six weeks away. Hail damage is almost never visible from the ground, which is exactly why a drive-by inspection can honestly report finding nothing.
What we did
We chalked ten-foot test squares across each slope and counted strikes inside them, then photographed the soft metals — the vents, the gutter aprons, the flashing — because bruised aluminium is the one piece of evidence nobody argues with. The mat under the shingles had been bruised across the two windward slopes and the granule loss showed clearly in the gutters. All of it went into a dated report formatted the way adjusters actually read them, and we had a crew member on the roof alongside the adjuster on the reinspection so nothing got missed a second time. When the first revised scope came back covering the field but not the flashing, we filed a supplement.
The result
Approved at full replacement scope with three weeks to spare, and the homeowners paid their deductible rather than the roof. The rebuild took seven days including new step flashing at both chimneys, which the original scope had left out entirely.
“We had been told no and believed it. Nobody had explained that no was based on somebody standing in our driveway.”
